How Shapes Can Enhance Your Space

Wellness is something that’s important to all of us. So we are here today to tell you how to make your home healthier!

Did you know the shapes of your furniture and accessories can lessen the anxiety in your space? Yup, I bet you never guessed the shape of your furniture could decrease your anxiety, did ya? Below we will touch on why and we will also share some of our favorite circular furniture pieces on the market today!

One thing that can impact our anxiety is not mixing shapes in our home! Angular shapes are common in most of our homes (especially modern homes). If you look at the walls, the floors, the fireplace, furniture, and picture frames–you name it, it’s a straight (often rectangular or square) line.

Here is a great example from our Raleigh Hills Project. Without the finishing touches of furniture and texture, the room feels sterile and cold. Below you will see the immediate, positive effect soft shapes can add to your home.

To break up all of these hard lines and create visual interest, we like to bring in circular shapes. When we look at angular shapes the part of the brain that processes anxiety is activated whereas bringing in circular shapes not only helps us feel more relaxed and calm, but it creates balance and interest in the space – it’s a win, win.

Night and day difference! The mix of round silhouettes, soft curves, and textural layers takes this home from cold and sterile to cozy and inviting.

HOW TO DO THIS IN YOUR HOME

Now that you’ve mastered soft lines in your furniture, go the extra mile with accessories. Start feathering in rounded pillows and curved accessories. We’ve even seen triangle-shaped pillows from time to time that are so fun for an added element of cozy surprise!

It’s not hard to sub out one old piece of furniture you’ve been looking to replace with a new piece that could impact your overall well-being! How’s that for powerful persuasion for your partner? 🙂

Stay well!
