Sleeping in Style and Comfort

Ultimate Guide to Bed Styling and Bedroom Elegance

Is your bed comfortable, but not stylish?
And on the flip side, is your bed stylish but not comfortable?

If so, this blog is for you.

We are going to walk you through how to make some easy changes to ensure your bed can be BOTH comfortable and stylish. We also have some of our favorite bedding products that will inspire you to get the look we love, so don’t miss it!

In the Treehouse, our client (aka my husband) asked for a calming room. As someone who loves bright colors, it was hard to reign it in. I knew how important it was to have a calming space to come home to at the end of the day, but I needed something interesting and fun. I opted for this beautiful, stormy wallpaper from Manolo Walls! Science has shown that bringing patterns that are found in nature into your home reduces stress and calms your brain’s neurons. Blues and pastels are also known for their tranquil benefits. The combination of soft pinks and muted blues worked well together, and the pillows and wall art provided the texture needed to make the space more dimensional. We also tied the blues found in the bathroom tiles with the blues found in the rug so we could bring cohesion all the way through the space.

LET’S START WITH COMFORT

First, you want your bedroom to feel calm and serene. When you step into your room after a long day, the last thing you need is to be overstimulated. Think about calming colors: blues, greens, whites, and grays. Symmetry may also help you with a more calming look.

The MATTRESS! You have to have a comfortable mattress. If it’s for you, do your research to find what firmness and brands will hold up and be what you want! If it’s for a guest room, Costco has amazing mattresses that we always get asked where they are from! Link to our favorite Costco mattress here.

Comfortable SHEETS! I really love the texture of percale by Parachute, but Teal’s favorite sheets are Brooklinen and she only does white!

The other part of a comfortable room that is often overlooked is a place for your accent pillows to be stored at night so you can rest easy with a de-cluttered space to look at after you hop into bed. Ideally, we would have a storage bench or closet space to store, but in the Treehouse we move the pillows to the bench at night.

Teal got me hooked on these silk champagne-colored pillowcases that she swears by for your hair and face that I now can’t live without!

NOW, FOR STYLE

Size matters! Do you have a king or a queen? If you have a king, 3 queen pillows across the back or 2 long king-sized pillows look the best. If you have a queen, 2 queen pillows across the back fits the space best.

Layer, Layer, Layer! How you layer throw pillows and primary pillows is key. If you have two long pillows, think about two square oversized pillows to go in front of them. Next, think about how you can add interest by going beyond traditional square pillows and mixing shapes! We love adding a lumbar or bolster pillow to round out the look of a bed. Think of the lumbar or accent pillows as the cherry on top! And remember, layering goes beyond pillows. Adding a quilt or throw blanket to layer on top, especially in the chilly winter months, adds that extra layer of style and coziness.

PRO-TIP: If you love the look of pillows, but you or your partner don’t like just chucking them on the floor every night, we recommend adding a storage bench to your room. It’s the perfect catch-all for pillows and blankets.
