The Magic of the PowerHour and Why You Need It

Get ready to witness the design magic unfold! In this blog, we showcase the remarkable transformation from a single PowerHour session in just one month's time. Fasten your seatbelts, because we're about to take you on a journey.

At Teal & Scott, we aim to solve your design challenges and bridge the perceived gap between ‘inaccessible’ design and feeling fabulous in your spaces. Our mission is to ensure that everyone has access to insider tips and tricks without breaking the bank. We do this by offering, in addition to our free, educational content on our social media channels, a new approach to design consulting—the PowerHour.

When we joined to create Teal & Scott we knew not everyone could afford an interior designer, or they may be intimidated by engaging in lengthy and expensive design contracts. Together, we’ve developed a new approach to design consulting called a PowerHour, and it’s exactly as it sounds. Imagine us as your personal design consultants, ready to tackle your design dilemmas with precision and finesse.

What to Expect From a PowerHour

  • Focused Attention: During our hour together, we'll dive deep into the areas of your home that need attention the most. Whether it's zhuzhing up your living room, decluttering your workspace, or revamping your bedroom, we'll tailor our expertise to meet your specific needs.

  • Clear Recommendations: No fluff, no vague advice - just straightforward, actionable steps to transform your space. We'll provide you with a comprehensive outline of our recommendations, including tangible design tips that you can implement immediately.

  • Infinite Possibilities: From styling to spatial planning and decluttering to suggesting new pieces, the possibilities are endless. We'll work together to identify the best approach for your space and your lifestyle.

  • Follow-up: Every PowerHour is followed up by a (quite lengthy) document filled with actionable steps that you can immediately implement. We get specific, so decision-making becomes easier, and your solutions are tailored to you and your individual needs for each space. This includes a customized purchasing list with our suggestions for additional pieces to finish out your space. From accent pieces to statement furniture, we'll help you find the perfect pieces to complete your design vision.

  • Potential Next Steps: Interested in working with us further? We'll outline potential next steps for ongoing design services tailored to your needs and budget.

Below is an example of a transformation just one month after one of our PowerHours. First, we put together a moodboard of images and examples for the client to choose from. Our recommendations included paint colors, curtain fabrics, and tile.

Before: We talked to our client about making this bathroom a statement piece. Our recommendation was a warmer paint color to complement the tile.

After: In our Powerhour, we recommended this linen shower curtain from Crate & Barrel accompanied by a black shower rod to bring the shower room together.

Once a direction was agreed upon, with just a few touches and a fresh coat of paint, the outcome is a fresh space that is clean, warm and cozy. The colors we decided on were Essex Green by Benjamin Moore and a light beige from Miller Paint.

The living room was a favorite of ours to advise on. The space itself was the perfect canvas to work with and strongly suggested a coffee table and couch that adds softness to the space.

Before: A gorgeous brick fireplace that is begging to be showcased with complementary furniture.

New furniture, touches of greenery and a cozy rug pull the room together in our “After” shot.

It’s all in the details! Adding coffee table books is a great way to include your interests and add a personal touch to your home. Carefully placing small items like candles and flowers (even fake ones!) can add personality as well.

The next room to tackle was the bedroom. The room already had a lot of unique pieces that could be rearranged and styled. For the sheets, we recommended this linen set from Parachute in a cream color to let the pillows, nightstands and art do the talking..

Before: The paint color was darkening the space and items didn’t fit together cohesively.

We suggested moving this piece above the bed to showcase it better and bring the room together.

With a fresh coat of paint and some strategic rearranging, the bedroom is warm and inviting, the perfect place to relax after a long day.
